It's taken a while, but Italy has finally jumped in with both feet, embracing the Internet. New portals and Internet service providers seem to spring up every day so this list is probably not complete. Also, many portals are also ISPs but we decided to give separate lists to make things less confusing.

- Agora'
Agora was created originally as a BBS by the Radical Party, but has since passed into private hands. http://www.agora.it
- Caltanet
Caltanet is produced by the Caltagirone family that owns the popular Rome daily newspaper "Il Messagero" and Naples' leading newspaper "Il Mattino". They offer free web access, Email, weather, sports, lots of local news, restaurants, entertainment, and a virtual community. http://www.caltanet.it
- Ciao Web
CEvery Friday Ciao Web offers a survey of what was published in the
Italian and International press for the past week called 7Giorni. It is
divided by categories such as culture, politis, sports, economy,

- Infinito
Infinito was brought to Italy by British Telecom. It offers
access to Internet, an unlimited number of mail addresses, as well as
100 megabytes of web space. All for free.

- IOL - Italia On
Line
IOL was one of the first providers offered by a big corporation
(Olivetti). It therefore has a large (for Italy) online community of
over 15,000 members. They also created on of the first search engines,

- Jumpy
Jumpy is the creation of Silvio Berlusconi's Mediaset, presented
in late 1999, a latecomer to the Italian web portal list. It offers the
usual mixed bag, the possibility to create your own home page linking to
the news you want, access to financial informtion, sports news, weather,
movies, horoscope, games, and chat. Click on the section "Jumpy dove
quando" and you'll find a page offering a t-shirt with Jumpy's logo frog

- Kataweb
Kataweb is the outgrowth of Espresso Edit, which publishes the
national Italian daily La Repubblica and L'Espresso magazine. It
aspires to be one of the principal portals to Italy, and also has a

- MCLink
MCLink was a pioneer BBS in Italy, now provides ADSL and ISDN
service mostly to businesses. The home page has links to many sites
including a software library, and a mirror for Tucows in

- Pippo
A modestly-financed project that hopes to outpace its wealthier
rivals through usability and "simpatia". There are several search
engines on the home page with links to sites in categories. The
cultural page lists dictionaries, museums, and a library. You can also
vote for what you feel makes life worth living.

- TIN Telecom Italia
Net
Both a portal and Internet Service Provider, Telecom Italia Net
provides a number of links to sites.

- SuperEva
Not only a portal but also a search engine geared towards creating a
community for women on the web offering chat, web space, email, and free
access to Internet. Created by Dada, the first Internet provider in

- Wind
Wind was presented by the Italian electricity monopoly (ENEL)
and offers free access to internet from fixed and mobile phones.

- Yahoo
Finally, Yahoo has arrived in Italy! One of our very favorites,
also because they have always given us a good listing. You can also buy
